Brief help for Music Studio.

Basics

Control playing with function keys.

F2 : Jump to last location
F3 : Rewind
F4 : Stop and back to start position
F5 : Play / Stop
F6 : Play from top
F7 : Forward
F8 : Jump to next location

MIDI Track

To make new MIDI track

1. Open Track window.
2. Click "Track Name" section of empty track.
3. Input track name and push enter key.


To choose musical instruments of MIDI track

1. Click "Patch" section of MIDI track. If "Patch" section is not displayed,
   Push "Patch Vol Pan" button in top of the Track window and display it.
2. In "Select Instrument", choose instruments from list.
3. Push OK button or enter key and close the dialog box.

   GM is selected as instrument map at first instration. If you want to use 
   other instrument map such as GS or XG, push "Change list" button and Change 
   instrument map. First, select device and channel to change instrument map 
   at the left list (multiple select is allowed) and choose new instrument map 
   at the right list.

   If instrument map has more than one group, Use shift+left or shift+right to
   change group.

Real-time recording

Real-time recording with MIDI keyboard

1. Click "R" column of MIDI track for recording and display "R".
2. Move current playing position to start position of recording.
3. Push recording button or F9 key to start recording.
4. Real-time recording will start after count down of two bars.
5. Push recording button again and end real-time recording.

Piano-roll

To open Piano-roll window

1. Select MIDI track to open Piano-roll at track window.
2. Push Piano-roll button at top of the Track window.


To input notes

1. Push "Step recording mode" button in top of the Piano-roll window.
2. Select minimum duration by using 10 key.

   1 : A whole note
   2 : A half note
   4 : A quarter note
   8 : A 8th note
   6 : A 16th note
   7 : A 32th note
   9 : A 64th note

   3 : A triplet note(ON/OFF)

   0 : Reset a triplet note

   To input 8th dotted note, select a 16th note for the moment.

3. Push left button at the start position and keep it.
4. Drag to end position and up left button.


To input notes with MIDI keyboard (Step recording)

1. Push "Step recording mode" button in top of the Piano-roll window.
2. Select minimum duration by using 10 key.
3. Move current playing position to start position of step recording.
4. Input note from MIDI keyboard. To input rest, or to extend note,
   Use these keys below.

   R : Input a rest
   Space : Extend note

   To input 8th dotted note, select a 16th note at 2. Input note and
   push space key twice. Length of the note becomes triple.

Edit MIDI Track

At first, select track and measure for editing, and next, execute editing.

Examples :

To copy a track

1. Select a source track at track window.
2. Open Edit menu and select "Copy" or push ctrl+C key.


To paste a track in clip-board to another track.

1. Select a destination track at track window.
2. Open Edit menu and select "Paste" or push ctrl+V key.


To cut a measure

1. Select a source track at track window.
2. Select a range of measure.
3. Open Edit menu and select "Cut" or push ctrl+X key.


To paste measure in clip-board to other measure.

1. Select a destination track at track window.
2. Select a top measure of destination.
3. Open Edit menu and select "Paste" or push ctrl+V key.


To delete a note

1. Select a note to delete at piano-roll or score-roll window by clicking.
2. Open Edit menu and select "Delete" or push delete key.

ASIO/VST(i)

To use ASIO

1. Open setup menu and select "Configure Audio".
2. In "Audio Driver", select "ASIO Driver".
3. Push OK button or enter key and close the dialog box.
4. Open setup menu and select "ASIO Setup".
5. Choose ASIO Driver to use from combo-box.
6. Assign inputs and outputs if you need.


To use VST

1. Copy VST files (*.dll) to plugin folder of Music Studio. C:\Program files\
   Music Studio Producer\ or C:\Program files\Music Studio Independence\
2. Run Music Studio.
3. The plug-in will appear in popup menu of effect, and you can use VST
   plug-ins same as other effects.


To use VSTi

1. Open Track window.
2. Click "Device Name" section of MIDI track to assign VSTi.
3. Scroll Combo-box down, and select output device which named "A xx".
   "A" means audio track. If you choose such device for output, the track will
   send MIDI data to audio track which you choosed.
4. Click "Patch" section of MIDI track. If "Patch" section is not displayed,
   Push "Patch Vol Pan" button in top of the Track window and display it.
5. Select VSTi to use from popup menu.

-  VSTi will be assigned as EFX1 of the audio track. It means you can use
   realtime effects for VSTi by using EFX2 ~ EFX5 and can send output to busses
   in audio track. You can also layer multiple VSTi by assigning other VSTi to
   EFX2 ~ EFX5. You need to up "Wet" button of VSTi when you use layer function.

For distribution

Save as .mid file

When you save music as .mid file for distribution, you have to convert
patch, vol and pan value to MIDI event : program change, control #7 and control
#10 because Music Studio outputs only events in event-list as .mid file.

However You can convert these values at a stroke by using "Insert event to
initialize track" function.

1. Select all tracks to convert patch, vol and pan to event at track window.
2. Open Do menu and select "Insert event to initialize track".
3. Make sure Instrument, Vol and Pan are checked.
4. Push OK button or enter key to execute it.
5. Confirm result at event-list. Patch, Vol and Pan are inserted to event-list
   as event.
6. Open File menu and select "Export MID file".
7. Save as .mid file.


Audio mix-down and Save as .wav file

1. Make new audio track for mix-down by right clicking at audio track window 
   and select "New track", "stereo mix down".
2. Move current playing position to start position of mix-down.
3. Push "Set" button under recording button or push ctrl+shift+r key to open
   "Audio recording setup" dialog.
4. Check "Offline mixing" at bottom left of the dialog.
5. Input end position of mix-down at "Auto punch out".
6. Push OK button or enter key to execute mix-down.
7. Open audio entry window and confirm new 2 WAFs are created.
8. Select these two new WAFs and click "WAF->WAV" button at top of the window.
9. Save as .wav file.
